BAI RESTRUCTURE
BAI has briefed us and staff on their proposed restructure. BAI has identified some individuals "at risk" of redundancy but is open to volunteers and swaps. Staff have been advised by BAI already. BAI is not keen on contractors - an audit is under way. I asked for the selection criteria and other material. Preference forms will be circulated by BAI. BAI agreed to extend the consideration of the VR process to Wed 28 March. We will meet that day to respond to issues you may raise.

BAI NSW OPERATIONS RESTRUCTURE
NSW will have an Area Manager (S Chandiran) and 2 Team Leaders (M Norton and P Murray). NSW South will lose 2 staff now and one more in December. NSW North will lose 2 now. We already expressed our concern about the 3 vacant jobs at Mt Canobolas and the consequent workload problems for existing staff. BAI has decided to reduce the NOC staff levels. At Gore Hill, we will lose 2 staff now and 7 more in December. We have not been given information on Castle Hill.

MORE SHAM CONTRACTOR CLASS ACTION
ITnews, Julian Bajkowski, stated in part on Feb 22: A second major telecom services supplier is being painted up for a class action on behalf of staff who were allegedly dudded on pay and conditions by deliberately classifying them as contractors when they were legally employees. Shine Lawyers, made famous by Erin Brockovich, has put the call out to staff at BSA to register their interest. "Shine's investigation into BSA is focused on claims that since at least 2012 BSA engaged in "sham contracting" by misrepresenting the true nature of its engagement with thousands of technicians by purportedly entering into sub-contracting arrangements with the technicians when in fact they were employees of BSA," the firm said. "If found to be employees, technicians could be entitled to annual and long service leave, minimum wage, overtime, superannuation and other payments under the Award."

TELSTRA CEO PICKS UP ONE MILLION - HE OFFERS 1% TO WORKERS
The media reports Dividends are to be cut. And Telstra's CEO Andy Penn choose to sell 300,000 shares for $3.24 per share on Feb 22. Mr. Penn reportedly sold to fund tax obligations as a result of the award of other shares, which may be true, but CEO selling never inspires much confidence in a company's outlook.

OPTUS SATELLITE
We have arranged meetings with members at the Optus Satellite Facility at Belrose to discuss a range of problems. Once these have been articulated, we will meet with Optus to progress the matters.
