MIRAIT EBA STALEMATE
We met with Mirait again this week only to find that Mirait is not prepared to move on pay rises. The last position was that members who are paid above the EBA rates (all staff are in this category) would receive 2.5% now and no guaranteed increase for 4 years. Members rejected that offer and proposed continuation of the CPI increases each year. Even a proposal for a 2 year agreement was rejected by Mirait.
Mirait advised that they would conduct an EBA ballot to see if staff support their offer.
WHS - NEW REGULATION TO PROTECT MENTAL HEALTH
Work Health and Safety Ministers from the States and the Federal Government voted to regulate mental health hazards at work. These changes are a huge step forward in the prevention of mental illness, sexual harassment and gendered violence in the workplace.
Regulation on mental health (or "psychosocial") hazards will require employers to identify and remove hazards to mental health from the workplace - the fastest growing cause of workplace injuries and illness - just as they currently do with physical hazards.
It will also give workers rights to enforce better protections for mental health and to take action key issues such as workloads, occupational violence and harassment (including sexual harassment) at work.
Every worker has the right to a safe job.
TRIPLE 000 - PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
We have sought clarification of the performance benchmarks for staff working in the area. Our concerns included:
logging out without penalty for various reasons
log-in and log-out times do not provide an accurate recording of a worker's work time.
the obvious stressful nature of the work
many calls also have inconsistencies with sound quality
noise levels is an issue that has been raised multiple times
faint calls is an issue and the headsets are not noise cancelling headsets.
Always have the mouse in hand in order to meet the 3 second demand.
software anomalies
We have posed a number of questions to Telstra so that we can address the issues. Our letter is available to members.
TRIPLE 000 - SIGN IN/ SIGN OUT PROCEDURES
We have also written to Telstra expressing concerns about the sign on procedures and the break procedures for staff in triple zero call centre at Paddington NSW. We are concerned that there have been breaches of the Fair Work Act 2009. An example is a direction dated 18 Nov 2020 stating (inter alia):
With calls increasing it is even more important that everyone adheres to their rostered break times, includes (sic) "Start times"..
Please be logged in ready to take calls at your rostered shift time
We have posed a number of questions to Telstra so that we can address the issues. Our letter is available to members.
