AUSTRALIA POST TRIALS
28 ULD MaxiTRANS TRUCKS.

CWU and Australia Post have been in discussions with regard to a trial of the 28 ULD MaxiTRANS truck body.

The initial trial site is in Victoria and a further trial will be conducted in NSW. The trial will be over a 3-month period.

The truck bodies will be fitted to the existing Mercedes Benz Cab/Chassis. The truck body also has the load restraints designed into the curtains, which should make it easier for drivers as they won't have to deal with the buckles on the side of the trucks.

Australia Post has advised the union that they are attempting to standardize truck bodies for OHS purposes by having truck bodies consistent across Australia

CWU Victorian Branch Organiser Brendan Henley raised concern with regard to the truck body access ladder. The ladder has now been re-engineered with the involvement of the Victorian CWU Branch and the issue has been resolved. A new Safe Operating Procedure has been developed and distributed in the workplace.

NSW Industrial Officer Greg Rayner suggested the National Vehicle Selection Committee be re-instated. This committee previously became involved in the selection of new vehicles allowing transport drivers direct involvement in the selection of transport vehicles. The National Office will represent this suggestion to Australia Post.
