20-09-05 TELSTRA GOING - IS POST NEXT?

Last week the Senate passed legislation to enable the sale of Telstra. It is not sold yet, and we may delay it. But what about Australia Post. This Government has tried twice to deregulate Post. In simple words, huge multinational companies will be given a gift of free access to the profit areas, leaving Australia Post the rest. Post will be forced to close Post Offices, sack Australians, reduce services and increase charges - particularly in the bush. As with Telstra, the National Party will agree if the money is right. Should the Government try a third time, we will need a major campaign similar to the successful Hands Off Australia Post campaign. We are monitoring the situation.
