The current Telstra Enterprise Bargaining Agreement expires in June 2005, and we will be negotiating a new agreement in a very difficult environment.

The Federal Government is bringing in new workplace laws when it gains the majority in both Houses of Parliament in July this year, which will strongly favour employers. However unfair the new laws are, one thing is certain. Telstra management needs workers to run the business.

CEPU members will have to campaign extra hard to make sure we get a decent wage increase, and maintain conditions and job security. But, if we stick together, we will succeed. How well we do in the negotiations depends on the strength and support of members.

Now is the time; our opportunity to influence our working life, and the standard of living of our families.

What members said

In surveys conducted across all CEPU state branches members said very clearly the major issues are job security and quality of life issues; things like access to leave when you and your family want it, to be treated with dignity and respect at work and protecting RDOs.

Job security is particularly important with the full sale of Telstra now certain and imminent.
