15 June 2020: Email from Darren Fewster to Telstra employees:

Hi all,

We're pleased to advise that the Fair Work Commission (FWC) on Friday approved our new Telstra Enterprise Agreement 2019-2021 (EA) which means it passed the FWC's `better off overall test' (BOOT). This reinforces that we met our objective to deliver an agreement that's fair and delivers on the needs of our customers, shareholders, and importantly, our people.

The new EA will take effect this Friday, 19 June. This means the pay increases you voted on will also come into effect. Here are the key dates you need to be aware of:

  • 19 June 2020: The flat increase of 0.3% will be applied to your Fixed Remuneration. This will be visible in the first payslip you receive post commencement of the new EA.
  • 24th June 2020 (the first pay run post commencement): You will receive your ordinary pay plus a one-off payment equivalent to the Fixed Remuneration you would have received had the new EA been in place from 1 October 2019 (or your start date if you commenced after 1 October).

Note: For a small number of people, this payment may be received a few days later if there are other separate individual pay transactions that need to be processed in Workday.

To recap, the EA will also lock in a range guaranteed benefits including:

  • Our industry-leading terms and conditions, covering hours of work, leave arrangements (including 16 weeks parental leave), redundancy accruals and retrenchment benefits with an 80-week redundancy cap.
  • A minimum 10% guaranteed superannuation contribution (higher than current legal requirements).
  • A guarantee that you'll only be required to take the additional 9 days accruing each year if you have more than 90 days long service leave - and the flexibility to take it at a time that suits you and the needs of your team.
  • Protections to your employment benefits in perpetuity if you move to a Telstra subsidiary (including redundancy benefits/accruals, hours of work and leave arrangements).
  • A pay increase of 2% for 2020, which will be a flat rate for Workstream employees and a pay pool for Job Family, AWA & ITEA employees.

In addition, as an outcome of the FWC approval process we've committed to:

  • Revise the First Aid allowance to $18.30 and the meal allowance payable to Retail and Workstream employees to $20.02.
  • Introduce paid meal breaks for Job Family shift workers at band 3ii and below who are required to remain onsite during a scheduled meal break.
  • Extend eligibility to receive essential customer servicing allowances to Field Based Sales Job Family Employees at band 3ii and below (previously this group were excluded from eligibility).
  • Introduce a minimum payment of 4 hours for non-continuous overtime performed by Job Family employees at band 3ii and below (excluding those in the Customer Support Technical Job Family where this is already built into their rate of pay, and Retail store employees who have different terms and conditions).
  • Pay overtime to part-time band 3ii & 4i retail store employees who perform more than their contracted hours.
  • Clarify that employees engaged on a causal basis can access unpaid bereavement leave, as our EA has not explicitly called this out previously.
  • In the event of any inconsistency between the EA and the provisions governing Personal/Carer's Leave in the National Employment Standards (NES), our employees will receive no less than the entitlement to 10 days' Personal/Carer's Leave provided in the NES.

    The material you need:
You can review the FAQs, and a copy of the new EA can be found on AskHR.
We're also updating the relevant policies so they're in line with the new EA. This includes long service leave, purchasing additional leave, redundancy (which now includes protections to key employment benefits in perpetuity if you move to a Telstra subsidiary), allowances and minimum rates of pay. You can find these on Ask HR from the 19 June.

Thank you again to everyone who took the time to vote and for your patience as the FWC completed their approval process.

    Regards, Darren Fewster
