LONG SERVICE LEAVE (LSL) - STATE

COMMONWEALTH EMPLOYEES such as Public Service, Telstra and Aus Post are covered by the Commonwealth Long Service Act.

NON COMMONWEALTH EMPLOYEES are covered by the Long Service Act in the state where they are employed. Each State in Australia has its own LSL Act.

In all states there is a minimum qualifying period before the entitlement arises.

Notes:
1. Various rules apply if you are made redundant - the qualifying period is shorter in some states.
Pro rata payment may apply.
2. Dismissal may affect the LSL payout
3. The rules vary from state to state
4. LSL is usually counted in calendar days - not work days.

VICTORIA

Victoria Long Service Leave Act 2018

LSL accrues at a rate of 1 week for every 60 weeks of continuous service - 0.866 of a week each year.

An employee is eligible to take LSL after 7 years' continuous work.
