WOOLWORTHS WYONG WORKERS WIN
Two weeks ago, United Workers Union members at the Wyong distribution centre took 24-hour stop-work action. Woolworths responded by locking them out indefinitely. These union members took on one of Australia's largest companies to stand up for good wages and conditions, decent jobs, and a more equal society. And yesterday, they won. Woolies Wyong members have successfully negotiated pay rises of up to 17.4% and a range of strong union rights and conditions. Read the full details and share the news from the United Workers Union Facebook post here -->
NBN TO DOWNSIZE
NBN has completed the initial build and is about to commence its next phase in operating the network. On 8 July 2020, NBN announced a new business structure. NBN has already outlined to employees that the changes throughout the company will result in NBN being a smaller organisation, expecting a reduction from 6300 to 5500 employees.
Despite this anticipated reduction in workforce, in March 2020 NBN announced that it would not affect any redundancies until 30 September 2020. This was to ensure NBN could provide some certainty to its employees during COVID - 19. This was a significant act to mitigate the impacts of the expected changes. NBN has not yet identified the impacted employees and so are not able to commence consultation.
