CWU T&S WEEKLY BULLETIN NO 2021 / 10
18 Mar 2021

CEPU STRUCTURE
Yes we are CEPU. The CWU and CEPU amalgamated in 1994 to form CEPU. CEPU has 3 Divisions - Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Divisions. The Communications Division represents members in the Telecom and Postal industries. Some branches such as ours still use the name Communication Workers Union (CWU). We are in fact the CEPU Communications Division NSW T&S Branch representing technical staff in the Telecom and Postal industries. Our Branch Secretary Dan Dwyer is a former tech and also a lawyer.

POST NEWCASTLE
Post has advised us that they wish to reduce the number of technical staff at Newcastle from 6 to 2 staff. This arises as Post will ship more mail from Newcastle to SWLF for processing. We are now considering our response.

TELSTRA RDO
Telstra has been adopting random changes to RDOs when RDOs fall on a public holiday. The RDOs are routinely moved to the next day. However we are seeing the odd change. Telstra is required to consult you if they are changing your RDO. A week ago we assisted a member who had made plans based on the routine practice. Telstra changed the RDO without telling him, and without consultation. (This is a breach of the EBA). We were able to get the RDO back on track.

POST SHIFT SWAP
We are not able to agree to Post's restrictions to your right to swap shifts. We are referring the matter back to the Fair Work Commission. The conciliation in FWC is next Tuesday 23 March.

TELSTRA - MORE REDUNDANCIES
The latest announcements from Telstra:
Today, we announced an initial decision to transition most of Telstra Enterprise to an Agile @ Scale model so we can start working this way from the start of FY22. These changes are designed to help us address three key priorities for our business:
1. Vastly improve how we collaborate. 2. Set ourselves up for growth based on a deep understanding of our customers' needs. 3. Remove complexity from our business and fix broken processes
If implemented, these changes to the way we work will lead to an overall reduction of 310 roles and creation of 102 new roles, resulting in a net reduction of 208 roles in Australia
In addition to implementing an Agile @ Scale model, we are proposing changes to the incentive arrangements for some employees. Employees who are part of specific Telstra Enterprise Sales Chapters will remain on Sales Incentive Plan (SIP) arrangements, while employees who are not part of these Sales Chapters will transition to a Short Term Incentive (STI) arrangement, if they are not already participating in one. Importantly, where employees are transitioning to a new incentive model, we will look to maintain their Total Remuneration at target. In addition, we are also proposing to standardise and simplify SIP arrangements.
To give those affected by today's proposals as much opportunity as possible to secure another role at Telstra, we will extend our external recruitment freeze for permanent and contract roles until the end of this financial year. The only exceptions will be frontline customer-serving and specialised roles, which we have been unable to fill internally. People who do not secure another role at Telstra will be supported by our career transition program and industry-leading retrenchment benefits.
