TELSTRA BREAK-UP MOVES

Telstra has advised that the Supreme Court of NSW approved the scheme of arrangement. This was the last approval required by Telstra. Telstra will now file a s 319 application with the Fair Work Commission to have the EBA arrangements approved.
The new employment contracts will be issues on 26 Oct.
Shareholders will be issued with new shares on 31 Oct
Employees will transfer to new employer commencing 8 Dec
The new business will begin on 1 Jan 23.

TPG EBA

The proposed Connect EBA and the TPG explanation will be circulated to all relevant staff on 24 Oct. Voting will open on 2 Nov and close on 7 Nov. TPG need 50% plus 1 of the relevant employees who vote in order to have a win. So it is important to vote. As we explained earlier, we strongly recommend that you vote, and vote NO.

UNION MEMBERS GET RESULTS

In the 6 weeks since the Fair Work Commission began releasing fortnightly snapshots of Enterprise Bargaining Agreement data, one thing has been very clear -union-backed enterprise agreements have delivered significantly higher wage rises than non-union agreements. (Centre for Future Work Policy)

UNION HISTORY - 40 HOUR WEEK

This year is the75th anniversary since unions in Australia won the first 40 hour week. Our win in 1947 created the very first two-day weekend!
When we fought for and won the first weekend, the business lobby and conservative politicians called a two-day weekend an "unnecessary and dangerous experiment". Almost 75 years later, big business executives, lobbyists and right-wing politicians still think giving workers' the rights to decent lives and fair pay is "unnecessary".
Unions believe that when you want things to change for the better, you can drive that change through strength in numbers. The union movement's mission is to build a better future for all working people and the community. Just as we won the weekend, the minimum wage, superannuation, paid annual leave, sick leave and parental leave and much more - we're taking real action today to ensure workers have decent wages and secure jobs
