BRANCH AMALGAMATION APPROVED

The FWC has approved the rules to amalgamate the NSW and Vic T&S Branches as of 24 Oct 2022. We are now just the T&S Branch. More details next week.

ALP LEGISLATION TO IMPROVE PAY

Some of the largest, most profitable corporations in Australia (many of whom pay $0 in corporate tax) are trying to stop the Albanese Government's new Secure Jobs Better Pay laws. The proposed Secure Jobs Better Pay laws will help ease the cost-of-living crisis by allowing workers to fairly negotiate pay rises.
After almost a decade of workers' pay being frozen or going backwards, these news laws are urgently needed. But big business -- who have enjoyed profit increases of 20% or more -- want to intimidate and bully the Government and the Senate.
If you want to help us stand up to this bullying, we need to ensure that these big businesses can't use their massive buckets of money to stop the laws that will allow workers from getting fair, decent pay rises.
The big business lobby may have millions of dollars, but we have strength in numbers and people power.
We can win the new Secure Jobs Better Pay laws with your help and the support of tens of thousands of everyday people just like you. So thank you for doing your part. The Australian Unions Team

VENTIA AGREED TO HALT RESTRUCTURE FOLLOWING UNION INTERVENTION

On 2 November 2022, Ventia announced changes to its Network Operations & Assurance / NIFM team, that would result in a reduction of 11 roles.
Impacted employees were notified on 3 November and given just one day to;

  • Consider their options with little to no information;
  • `Consult' with the company on their individual circumstances; and
  • Make some pretty serious decisions about their future with the company.
    This disgraceful action by Ventia does not even get close to constituting with genuine consultation.
    The Union appealed for Ventia to extend the period, with nothing but push back from the company. Clearly, their action was prearranged and their intentions to `consult' is just lip service.
    The Union has therefore made an application to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) for an urgent hearing. The hearing has been granted and will occur next Thursday, 10 November. As a result, Ventia have committed to not making any irreversible decisions on this matter until the FWC has heard the matter.
    This should hopefully provide some comfort to impacted members who can now consider their options, outside of a pressure cooker environment.

    THIRD-YEAR CPI WAGE INCREASE SECURED AT NBN OUTSIDE OF BARGAINING

    As members are aware, despite significant improvements being won by the Union through the bargaining process, we could not overlook what we saw as overwhelming shortcomings associated with nbn's pay and remuneration offer as part of EBA negotiations.
    As an outcome of negotiations, nbn has provided undertakings to the Union to pay a wage rise equal to the scheduled 3.25%, or the CPI growth for the preceding 12-month period (whichever is greater), in the EBA's third year.
    This increase, inclusive of superannuation, will be paid to every member covered by the EBA.
    Although any additional remuneration commitments we are able to secure outside the EBA is welcomed, the Union remains conscious, and concerned, with the rising cost of living pressures - and the impact of those pressures on nbn workers and their families.

    TPG EBA VOTED UP

    The ballot was conducted by TPG, The participation rate was 60%. Some 68% of those who voted, voting yes. The EBA will not go to the FWC for approval and certification.
