IDENTITY THEFT - IT'S REAL
A member recently had his Superannuation Benefits stolen - about $400,000. The thief was able to convince the Post super fund that he was our member and withdrew the funds. We of course assisted our member and he has had the funds fully restored.
The lesson here is that it is not only credit cards and bank accounts that are at risk. Your phone is often a critical part of the security and a thief needs access to your phone number (not the physical phone).
So please stay alert and take security and passwords seriously.
HIGH COURT TO RULE ON QANTAS OUTSOURCING
The High Court has granted Qantas special leave to appeal two Federal Court findings which concluded that nearly 2000 staff had been sacked by Qantas in a deliberate effort to avoid staff exercising enterprise bargaining rights.
The TWU members who have been fighting against Qantas' illegal outsourcing for more than two years will continue to hold the company to account. TWU members are pushing back against Qantas' frequent attacks on its own workforce and systemic abuse and exploitation of our broken workplace relations system.
Cases like this are a clear demonstration of the need for more effective workplace laws and stronger rights for working people. (ACTU)
POST PANDEMIC POLICY
Aus Post has advised as follows:
Post introduced its paid Pandemic Leave Policy in Mar 2020 to keep our people safe throughout the global COVID-19 pandemic. Since its introduction, we have supported over 14,000 team members to access paid pandemic leave where they were unable to attend for work due to government-imposed isolation or COVID-19 testing requirements, at a cost of over $16 million.
The Federal Government's recent decision to end mandatory isolation requirements for people who contract COVID-19 (effective from 14 Oct 2022) has resulted in the Policy having no further utility, and on this basis we will be retiring the Policy on 9 Nov 2022.
