TELSTRA END OF DAY FOR FIELD STAFF

Following our item last week we received several inquiries. See the Bulletin item at Bulletin 4
We will also clarify start of day in next Bulletin.
Should you have any questions, please contact me.

END OF DAY QUESTION

Q. - My hours are 8am to 3.50pm. Start time is 8am but we are required to login at 7.30 and start to travel to our job. The time spent between 730 and 8.00 is unpaid. If our 1st job is within 30min of our start location we are expected to be onsite by 8.00.
If I was to finish my last job at 4.00 and had an hour's travel home, (what) would I be untitled to?
A - Assuming no issue at start time. 3.50pm to 4pm is overtime, therefore 10min overtime. Travel is 60 min less 30 min - therefore 30m overtime. Total overtime is 40 mins.
and had an hours travel home, (What) would I be untitled to?

OPTICAL FIBRE/BROADBAND CLASSIFICATIONS

Following many attempts to get Telstra to upgrade some Optical Fibre members who have been assigned higher levels of work, we have filed an application in the Court. The application alleges underpayment to our member and seeks payment at CFW7 level, well up from his current CFW4 level. We also seek backpay, interest and penalties. The case will take some time and will begin with mediation. Note that when a matter is settled along the way, it is usually a confidential settlement, and we cannot report any specific outcome.

POST RESTRUCTURE

Chaos still prevails at SPF and it now appears to be infecting SWLF and satellite sites. We wrote to Post seeking a meeting to see if any rational plan now exists. Post responded as follows: (We are now seeking an urgent meeting).
I have been advised that a State Technical JCC will be convened shortly to further discuss the technical leadership structures at SWLF and SPF with an aim to progress these structures. Also confirming that the structures have not been implemented including appointing people to these new roles and accordingly back payments are not appropriate at this stage.

HEAT AT KEMPS CREEK

We sought monitoring of temperature at Kemps Creek. Post has responded and we will follow up:
I have raised your request with the Operations area and they have advised that the necessary temperature measures have been incorporated into the building such as fans, doors and air-conditioning in the loose load lanes.
As the Facility is not yet operational, it is not practical to do the monitoring at this stage, this request can be further discussed with the relevant Facility Manager once the Facility becomes operational. Happy to discuss further.

TELSTRA REDUNDANCIES

We met with Telstra to clarify the redundancies announced last week. There are none in the Broadband/Optical Fibre area. Telstra will keep 38 staff to work on dark fibre etc whilst the rest will transfer to Telstra Limited. The redundancies arise in the Retail area.
