Number 10 26 March 2023 WHY ARE YOU GETTING THIS BULLETIN?
The NSW/ACT T&S Branch has had a weekly Bulletin for members and ex-members for several years.
BRANCH AMALGAMATION The amalgamation of the NSW/ACT and Victorian Branches occurred on 24 October 2022. Apart from joint Bulletins, we are meeting monthly, mainly by Zoom, and amalgamating our accounts. We are still represented by experienced industrial staff - Sue Riley, Dan Dwyer and John Ellery. NOTICE - NSW ACCOUNTS We were required to prepare accounts up to that date and have the accounts audited. This has been done for both former branches. The NSW accounts and audit report has been posted to our web page. NSW Accounts NBN JOB CUTS Last week we reported the 500 job cuts in nbn. We complained to nbn and proposed a media campaign against the proposals. We particularly opposed offshoring of some work and transferring staff to another company (TATA). It appears at this stage that nbn will not proceed with the transfer of staff to TATA. They are also reconsidering the offshoring of jobs. OPTICAL FIBRE/BROADBAND CLASSIFICATIONS VIC Following many attempts to get Telstra to upgrade some Optical Fibre members who have been assigned higher levels of work, we filed an application in the Court in Melbourne. We will file an amended claim as the employer (Telstra Limited etc) changed. Meanwhile Telstra indicated that it wished to talk with us. The application alleges underpayment to our member and seeks payment at CFW7 level, well up from his current CFW4 level. We also seek backpay, interest and penalties. The case will take some time and will begin with mediation. Note that when a matter is settled along the way, it is usually a confidential settlement, and we cannot report any specific outcome.
